Show affiliationsA quantitative interpretation of the dielectrophoretic effect is presented, the approach being based on consideration of two distinct regimes, namely the dielectric and conduction regimes, under which the force acting on a particle depends, respectively, on the permittivity and on the conductivity differential between the particle and the medium. Illustrative experimental situations are presented.
