Show affiliationsVoltage-current characteristics of a glass-metal particulate composite of the V2O5-P2O5-Bi2O3 system, especially the negative resistance region prior to the on-state, have been computed using a particle stretching model. The theoretical curves are found to be in reasonable agreement with experimental data. Specimens having effective thicknesses of the order of 50 mu m show threshold switching. This has been explained on the basis of the magnitude of the relaxation time for the temperature profile to decay within the sample after the removal of the electric field.
