Abstract

Precise conditions for the validity of the equations developed by Jain and Krishnan to determine the thermal conductivity of metals at high temperatures are obtained. Improvements and modifications in the techniques are suggested to secure the conditions for the validity of the equations and to improve the accuracy of the measurements. The improved method is used to measure the thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity and total and spectral emissivities of nickel in the temperature range 1150-1400°K.
