Show affiliationsMelting enthalpies of the Se-Te system have been measured. It is shown that the melting enthalpies of Te and Te-rich alloys are influenced by the structural changes in the liquid. The melting enthalpy increases almost linearly with Te concentration up to 60 at.%, and then rises steeply to the value for Te, which is consistent with the phase diagram of the liquid. The results are used to evaluate the transition enthalpy Delta H for transitions from L- to H-phase liquids. Delta H is typically about 4 kJ mol-1. The results are discussed with reference to the excess specific heats associated with the structural transitions in the liquid.
